Afterschool Abstract Artist Series - Piet Mondrian - Grades K-5

Students will be introduced to the works of Piet Mondrian, a Dutch artist  who enjoyed painting realistic scenes, particularly trees.  Mondrian developed into an abstract artist most noteable for paintings representing squares and rectangles. Students will use their creativity skills to create Broadway Boogie art based on the technique of Dutch artist Piet Mondrian.  As a learning reinforcement, the class will close with "Piet Mondrian BINGO". 

Afterschool Abstract Artist Series - Wassily Kandinsky - Grades K-5

Students will be introduced to the works of Wassily Kandinsky, a Russian painter.  Kandinsky's works ranged from Impressionism to Modern Abstract Art.  As one of the first creators of pure abstraction in modern paintings, students will learn about geometric forms, lines, and colors. Students will use their creativity skills to create "Kandinsky Animals art" based on the technique of Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky.  As a learning reinforcement, the class will close with a "Roll and Retell" game. 

Afterschool Abstract Artist Series - Paul Klee - Grades K-5

Students will be introduced to the Swiss-born German artist, Paul Klee.  Klee was best known for painting, drawing, watercolors and printmaking based on expressionism, futurism, cubism, surrealism, and abstraction.  Students will use their creativity skills to create a city collage, watercolor castles, and a puzzle based on the works of Swiss-born German artist, Paul Klee.

Get Ready for Halloween - Craft Your Witch

Are  you ready for Halloween?  Join JoAnn from ElmRose Creations for a night of ghoulish wood crafting fun!  We could always use one more decoration, right?  Decorate your witch to your liking with paints and cut-out designs.  This two-session class will allow you to have some fun decorating your Halloween design the way you like it.  The first evening you will paint the cut out of the witch and add the designs such as eyes, nose, mouth, ghost, sign, buttons (all wood cut outs).  Any engraving needed will be done between classes.  The second evening you will assemble everything so you can place your 28-inch witch in your garden or gift it!  Please wear old clothes and be prepared for a trick or treat!

Ancient Craft of Basket Weaving II

In this two-week session workshop students will be guided by skilled craftsman Glenn Wienke, to perfect their skill in the ancient craft of basket weaving.  Students will enjoy a fun, relaxed atmosphere while creating their 8 x 10 inch basket by integrating both color and woven patterns using naturally dyed reed in multiple widths.  

*Students will need:  One yardstick, medium-sized scissors and screwdriver, absorbent dish towel, 10-12 clothespins with springs, pencil, paper weight such as a one-pound box of spaghetti 

Afterschool Abstract Artist Series - Henri Matisse - Grades K-5

Students will be introduced to visual artist, printmaker and sculptor, Henri Matisse.  This French artist is best known for his use of color and originality.  Matisse has been known to describe his works as, "a soothing, calming influence on the mind, rather like a good armchair".  Students will use their creativity skills to create a painting with scissors and Matisse goldfish followed by a game, "Roll a Matisse". 

Basics of Acrylic Painting - Session II

In this six-week class students will gain a direction and basic understanding of the acrylic paint medium as well as the elementary principles of color, composition, perspective, contrast, focal point, and texture.  Using only primary colors and white (four total colors), students will learn to mix their own colors with the help of a color wheel.  In addition, students will learn how to identify the core components in a picture, how to break their painting into sections, and ultimately complete their own masterpiece by the end of the course.

How exciting you would like to learn the wonderfully creative craft/skill of sewing!  Join experienced seamstress, Loretto Thompson, who will open the door to this fun and functional world for you!  Learn sewing terms, tools of the trade, how to read, layout, and cut out patterns, and much more.  Choose your own project (prior approval required), which may include crafts, clothing, home decor, window treatments, costumes or toys.  Once you learn and practice the basics, with Loretto's help, you will get the chance to start your project (and hopefully complete it) by the end of your time together.
