Ancient Craft of Basket Weaving
with Glenn Wienke
Join skilled craftsman Glenn Wienke, who will share his passion and skills on the ancient craft of basket weaving. Register for this two-session workshop, which is appropriate for beginners as well as more experienced basket weavers. Students will enjoy a fun, relaxed, atmosphere creating their 6 x 8-inch basket with rattan reed and hardwood push-in handles. Fee includes reed and wood handle. *Students need: one yardstick, medium-sized scissors and screwdriver, absorbent dish towel, 10-12 clothespins with springs, pencil, paper weight such as a one-pound box of spaghetti.
Basics of Acrylic Painting - Session I

In this six-week class students will gain a direction and basic understanding of the acrylic paint medium as well as the elementary principles of color, composition, perspective, contrast, focal point, and texture. Using only primary colors and white (four total colors), students will learn to mix their own colors with the help of a color wheel. In addition, students will learn how to identify the core components in a picture, how to break their painting into sections, and ultimately complete their own masterpiece by the end of the course.

Carving Soapstone in Relief

Join the Artists from Celtic Nature Studio for a two-week class in which students will learn to carve soapstone in relief - a technique where figures or designs are raised from a flat background, creating a 3D image. The relief carving subject offered will be simple Celtic knotwork. Students will be offered a series of celtic designs to choose from. Hand tools and stone will be provided. Participants should bring a pair of heavy work gloves, a dust mask, as well as a ruler or tape measure.

Knitting for Beginners

You will learn the basics from casting on, the different stitches, and how to cast off from the knitting needles. Everything will be supplied for you to get started.
Slate Carving - Etch an Irish Slate Pendant

Hand etch a pendant and learn about Ogham, an ancient Irish writing system. In this 90-minute class names or phrases will be translated into Irish and etched into a slate pendant. In addition, topics covered will be the legend and lore of the Ogham alphabet and how it has been used throughout history, Come on out and join the artists from Celtic Nature Studio and carve your own Irish pendant right before St. Patrick's Day! All tools, and materials provided.
